June President's Message

Greetings Fellow Metalsmiths!

Angelina SmithFirst-off let me begin this message by saying thank you to all of you who are being diligent about our social distancing and the sacrifices we make everyday that protect the collective us. Restaurants, Movies, Hair cuts, roller-rink-skating, Wine-Tasting, Disneyland, Weddings, Birthdays, and Travel have all had to be put on hold for what is starting to seem like forever.

Believe me when I say that I can’t wait to get back to some semblance of a normal routine, but I am unwilling to reclaim many of what I would consider my normal “freedoms” because doing so could still put myself and others in danger. I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that now is not the time to let down our guard. We all need to stay safe and Covid-free, if possible.

Keeping all of this in mind MASSC has been working on ways to enrich your lives from afar. We have been trying to get some online events going for our members, things that are designed to reconnect us as a group.

YOU Should Host a Demo for MASSC!

We are looking for members who are willing to host an online demonstration or workshop via ZOOM. If you think you have a topic you can cover during the month of JULY please email Ketarah.Massc@gmail.com to pitch your demo. Massc is paying $50 for each live online demonstrations over 30 minutes for the year 2020.

On May 8th Erin Proctor held an online demonstration with her Really Cool Engraving MachineErin made a limited 50 pc batch of some COVID Can’t Stop Us Pins for MASSC. I ordered mine right after the Demo, and like 30 other people did as well. There may be a couple left, but you’ll have to check with Erin on that.

You can read the demo Summary here:

On May 16th I hosted a Follow-Along-Live Stay@Home Workshop on some Wavy Wire Earrings that I made.

I’ve written a little something about that which you can read here:

Alongside that we have been working to make these events viewable in our video library, so if you are a MASSC Member, you should be able to stream those videos via Vimeo on our private channel collection HERE: https://vimeo.com/showcase/massc
